Is Phone and Gadget Insurance Worth It?

Updated October 2026

Check what you already have. Some packaged bank accounts and home contents policies include gadget cover, sometimes with limits on value or time away from home.

Standalone phone insurance typically costs a monthly premium plus an excess for each claim. Add up the likely cost over the phone's life and compare it with repair or replacement.

Look at what is covered: accidental damage, theft, loss and liquid damage. Many policies exclude unattended items or require proof of forced entry.

Manufacturer protection plans cover repairs but not theft or loss. Decide which risks you are actually worried about.

Keep receipts, IMEI numbers and photos so a claim goes smoothly.
